Practicing Your Wedding Vows
- Firstly make sure personalized wedding vows are allowed at your wedding, some religions would need you to take the traditional vows. Once this is clear , discuss with your partner how comfortable he/ she is with what you are going to say , if you both prefer to read out similar vows or have individual write - ups written , also discuss the length of the vows , its best for both to follow the same time period.
- Seek advice from one of your married family members or best friends; take suggestions on how best you can do your wedding vows.
- Sit down and think of all the wonderful things you mean and want to say to your partner, you could draw inspirations from your favorite love songs or relate an incident that’s most special to you and your partner. It is alright for the whole world to know what and how you feel; these are your moments of joy.
- Once done with the write-up, take a second opinion, show it to your close friend, see if you need to make any changes, once through, practice reading it until you are thorough with it , read it aloud , preferably with a friend or a relative around, they can correct you or suggest if there is something amiss.
- Have a copy with you and one with your best man / bride’s maid; this way even if you jumble up amidst all the emotions, you can receive some immediate assistance.
- Look at your partner while you say your vows, smile and mean every word that you say, you are not reciting mere write - ups here, you are taking your wedding vows.
- If you feel nervous, it’s only natural; it’s your wedding after all.
